Going to college requires a lot of time, money and work. Unfortunately for many students they must also split their time with a part-time job. The high cost of living and education requires that many students work to meet their expenses; however, it can be a challenge to find a job that works well with a demanding class schedule and study time. What many students need is a job that allows them to set their own schedule, be their own boss, and determine their own success. That job is direct selling.
Direct selling , a sales approach that elicits sales person-to-person rather than through a traditional store or fixed location, has become a huge industry in the U.S. Whether it is selling makeup through Avon or educational products through Southwestern company, salesmen are able to set and achieve their own goals as well as work around the many other demands they have for their time. There are many informational videos available online that explain the direct sales industry and how to get involved.
For students that are self-motivated, hard working, and responsible, direct selling could be the ideal job. Direct selling allows great flexibility to work around already busy schedules ‚ €students can work as much or as little as they want and their success is dependent on them.
Before I graduated from high school, my English teacher had each of us write a letter to ourselves describing where we would be five years in the future . With a bright future in front of us it was easy to fill up the page with our dreams of finishing college, getting a great job, and, for some, starting a family. However, when I received that letter in the mail five years later I realized I had strayed very far off of the path I had set for myself. Not that I am not happy with my life, I am, but I realized that without those goals in front of me it easy to let time and life carry them away. Without goals and something to work towards, it is easy to stay where we are and just let time slip away. So I would ask you, what goals do you have for yourself?
Sit down and write out where you see yourself five years from now. Do you want to start a new career? Perhaps you see yourself in management? Do you still want to be living in the same location? Or even the same state? Once you have it all written down, it’s time to make it happen. Break your five-year plan down into one year plans , and if you are super detailed, monthly plans. Determine what you have to do over the next five years to get you where you want to go. Think about whether you have all the leadership skills to get you to the next level at work and, if not, what you can do to enhance. If you want to be a leader and eventually work in management, find out if your company offers a management training program that can help you sharpen your skills.
Don’t think that just because you write down your goals you have to stick to them. Pull them out every once in awhile and reevaluate them. As you change, so will your goals. Goals are a good way to feel like you’ve accomplished something and keep you moving steadily into the future.
The norm is go to school, get a degree, get a job, work, work, work, hopefully get a raises and possibly promotions, then retire. It is as if there are no other choices in this world but to work for someone else. Well there are other choices, I have chosen to do live otherwise. Being an entrepreneur is one option, if you have the drive and an idea and the courage you can leap out on your own. Take control of your income, your time and your life. Begin your own business and have the freedom of being your own boss. Of course being an entrepreneur requires a lot of work and focus. More hours are generally put in by an entrepreneur than an average office worker. However the work can be done where you choose and on the time table you select. Work all night and sleep all day. Double up on the work load one day and take the next day off. It can be tough keeping up the focus and motivating yourself but ultimate the reward is worth it. Entrepreneurship will build your confidence and belief you can accomplish what you set out to do what ever it is. Creating an opportunity to employ yourself is empowering and liberating. Controlling what work you have to do and when to do it makes for a happier and more productive person. Working from the road is another advantage of entrepreneurship especially if you have built a business that isn’t location specific. Something you can do form anywhere on your computer. I particularly like this aspect. Conducting business on the beach, answering emails from the lobby of a 5 star Mumbai hotels, returning calls while playing a round of golf. Working this way is freedom and liberty without the constraints of the 9 to 5 grind. It can be scary but I think it is worth the ultimate reward of answering to yourself and no one else. This is non-conformity at its best!
My friends just got back from Dubai and told me next time that I go I must do what’s called Wadi Bashing , an activity in Dubai known about by any adventure seeker worldwide. Wadis are a dry riverbed that follows the course of seasonal streams naturally carved out by flood waters flowing in and around rocky valleys. Wadi bashing is about riding through the wadi in a four-wheeled vehicle. Preferably a Land Rover or a Jeep Cherokee if one wants to be successful at Wadi Bashing.
The best season for Wadi Bashing is from October to April because most tourist can’t take the burning desert sun, but one does need to be careful about the possibilities of a flash flood. I’m not the adventuresome type, but something about this type of desert sport intrigued me. So, I book a room at the Luxury Hotels Dubai UAE six months in advance, not wanting to be the only one of my friends who hasn’t tried Wadi Bashing and not wanting to fry like a crispy-critter in the heat of summer desert. I’m pretty much of a wimp when it comes to four-wheeling, heat and desert. My friends know that I have these fears, but that doesn’t stop them from egging me on.
Wadi Bashing takes a lot of courage and an expertise in driving. It can take well over an hour or so of rough driving not only through the dry washes, but around rock pools, oases and ancient stone houses. It’s not easy to drive on sand, which my friends are experts at and will tease me to no end when they find out I booked an experienced driver because they rented their own four-wheel drive vehicles and went Wadi Bashing all on there own. I’m assuming that Wadi Bashing can be tough going because listening to my friends tell me the bashing isn’t when you hit the wadis, but when you top the dunes and that is a bone-shaking journey. I guess, as my friends tell me, it’s an experience that will last me a lifetime. I just hope I’ll have a lifetime after I go bashing.
The economy has seen better days and so has your resume. It can be tough to get back into the market, but your employment options can be even more limiting if you are not willing to relocate.
A good idea is to see where your type of job has the most opportunity, and this opportunity may not lie in your backyard. Take a look at jobs all over the US map and even include the World map.
If you are in a situation where relocating is possible it is a viable option when job hunting. If you do not limit your options to one regional area you will be able to apply for more jobs than the average person looking in your town.
The other good thing about applying all over the USA map is that you will get yourself exposed to a lot of different kinds of people. So even if you don’t get a job from your foray into relocation, you will still be able to sharpen your people and interview skills.
Also consider looking for contract positions in other areas. This would require you to move and live there for a short time, but it would not be permanent, consider it a mini-vacation away from your current life. Checking out the economic map of California or Florida map if you want to work in some warm weather is never a bad idea. That way you could try some new hobbies while you adjust, and you might even end up loving it.
Looking for a new job is rough, no matter where you live, especially in this current economic climate. All that matters is that you keep your options open and your chin up, you never know, you may end up with not just a new job, but a whole new life!
Many construction sites sit vacant in the city-state of Singapore. Including residential and business sites, such as Singapore luxury hotels. Government officials in various areas state that they do not want to have buildings sitting empty or half-finished and are offering rebates and reductions in loan rates. They acknowledge that the current market has created quite a challenge as far as sales for new homes or apartments, but with the prices at an all time low, deadlines are being extending and private development has come to a halt. Multi-million dollar projects in areas affluent such as Sentosa cove, are being stopped. A complex offering up shops, and condominiums and even a Universal Studios Theme Park, has had to stop mid-production, leaving construction cranes just waving in the breeze. Prices on property, business and residential was on the rise. Big business, entertainment and tourism created a metropolis of the small island in the South Pacific. However now, the lawyers and the brokers from foreign countries are going home. Hopefully just to weather the storm. That is what the government of Singapore is hoping anyway.
While some buildings sit empty, and construction is halted on many projects, a few will not give in nor give up. Million dollar projects are being pursued by companies in the hopes that this time will pass and what will come forth is greater. Many wealthy foreigners live in Singapore now, a result of the immigration in the early years of the 2000′s. Boston Consulting Firm concluded from a recent study that more than ten percent of the residents in Singapore have invested assets that total one million dollars, or more. A concentration of millionaires that doubles that of the United States. Tax breaks are being offered to medical and technological companies seeking residence in Singapore, and there is still a feeling of flurry, flurry in the construction sector as well as the business and technology sectors. Deferred payment programs and rebates are being offered by the government as well, and the island is determined to wait out the crisis.
