What Tires Do You Need?

There’s a great tire sale going on and you noticed that the tread on your tires no longer passes the penny test. As a result you have realized that it is time to buy new tires for your car or truck. How do you figure out whether you need special, high performance tires or just a good set of some standard model tire?

Start by looking at the size specifications for your car. This will ensure that you get the right diameter and depth of tire. Yes, you can get over or under sized tires to create a visual effect. Just make sure you do your research as to how much over or under you can go without causing damage to your car.

Next think about the types of roads you drive on. Most people are fine with a standard set of kuhmo tires . However, if you do a lot of off road driving, live in a hotter climate, or deal with a lot of snow, you’ll need to buy tires that are rated to handle those conditions.

Another consideration is the type of driver you are. Slow and steady drivers don’t really need to buy tires with a high speed rating. If you do a lot of highway driving at high speeds, your tread will wear faster from the friction and you should get a thicker, more heat resistant tire.

Lastly, think about the way your tires look. If your car is just a mode of transportation, then it doesn’t really matter what they look like. However, if you want to use your car to express your personality, then american racing wheels may be just what you need to show off that expensive paint job.

What You Need to Know When Buying a Used Pontiac Grand AM

When you are looking to buy a new Pontiac Grand AM there are a few important thing that you need to remember to be on the on lookout for. The first thing that you will need to do is make sure that the Pontiac Grand AM repair manual is still with the car. If it isn’t, you will want to make sure to get one. Check out the car and see if it needs repairs . If it does, is it something that you could do, or will it need to be taken into the shop? Usually repair work that needs to be done can be a haggling point for many buyers and sellers. If it is repair work that you can do yourself with the right automotive manuals , you might be willing to change your own price range a little bit.

The next thing you will want to do is to ask the current owner for any information about the car, accidents it has been in, repair work that has been done on it. Don’t just take their word for it though. Find a car reporting site and find out any information you can from them to see what the history of the car is. If the car has had a lot of issues, that fact can either make it less desirable, or it can make it cost you less money if you are still interested in it. If there is anything that turns out off about the car, walk away and find a different car that you like.

Robben Island Museum

Robben Island was a prison for almost four hundred years, located just a few miles outside of Cape Town, South Africa. Rulers were exiled here during the time of Apartheid, those troublemakers and outcasts such as Nelson Mandela, and the current president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, the men who stood up and fought against Apartheid and racism. The prison has been a museum since 1997, and has now become the seemingly unlikely location, for the celebration and conservation of the heritage and history of the country. Tours are given daily, with transportation from the mainland provided first by Cape Town car rentals, and then a two hour ferry ride to the island. Robben Island has been a World Heritage Site since 1999. The island is home to many indigenous birds that now are protected in the nature reserves and sanctuaries, as well as the rabbits, bucks and other wildlife native to the island.

Originally, this prison was meant to isolate freedom fighters and destroy their morale. However, true to the spirit of South Africa, Nelson Mandela spent twenty-seven years on the island, and when released, became the first elected president. Suffice it to say, the man’s morale was not crushed. Oppression in the prison during the 1960′s was intense, however the prisoners were able to overcome that and organized programs for education, debates about the politics of the time, and sporting games and events. The prison life just put them into a position wherein it was necessary for them to assert their rights to be treated with dignity. Perhaps they gained more strength and drive by the fact that they were incarcerated and it became imperative to their survival to demand to be treated with equality, to be treated as human beings. The history of the now democratic country, owes much to these prisoners, as the seeds of freedom and democracy were sowed in the prison of Robben Island.

What Could Cause Tires to Slowly Lose Air?

Do your tires lose air repeatedly over time? The problem could be the rims and tires or the wheel and tire package you have on the vehicle. Ray and Tom Magliozzi, who give car advice on their car talk column for the Bellingham Herald in Bellingham, Washington has some suggestions on some things to look for.

They suggest the following:

Ray: There are two things I’d look at. One is your valve stems. The valve stem is the black rubber thing that sticks out of the wheel. It’s where you put the air when you fill up the tires. Valve stems can sometimes crack, or deteriorate and get porous, and allow air to slowly leak out.

Ray: The other possibility is that you have oxidation on the inside of the rims, and that’s preventing the bead of the tire from sealing tightly against the rims. That’s also a common source of slow leaks.

Tom: So, my suggestion would be to have your mechanic remove all of the tires, clean up the rims, replace the valve stems and remount the tires. I’ll bet that fixes it.

Ray: And if he happens to notice any huge nail holes while he’s at it, have him patch those up, too.

I sit at a desk for my job so I really love being physical when I get home. I feel healthier and I like doing things that are unrelated to my job. I don’t spend a lot of time watching television so I have to keep busy with the things that interest me.

One of those things is fixing up cars. I am fixing up a Corvette from the 1980s. I have the engine working perfectly so now it’s time to focus on the interior and exterior of the car.

I have an order for custom rim that will make her look extra sharp. The chrome rim set that is coming is going to look great when she’s painted a fiery red. And like I said, since I spend so much time staring at a computer screen, working on cars helps keep me in shape and keeps my evenings and weekends full.
