Boomsday is an annual one day event held in the waterfront area of downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. The event is well known throughout the South East US and boasts the grandest firework display in the area. (twenty minutes worth…) It attracts visitors from around the world.
The event takes place over the Labor Day holiday weekend on the Volunteer Landing by the Tennessee River. There is lots of live music, games, rides, exhibits, food and drinks.
The highlight is the firework display which attracts vast crowds. The fireworks are set off from Henley St Bridge so they can be viewed from many areas including the surrounding hills, the riverfront area or if you can manage it a boat on the river.
What makes the event unique is the fact that the fireworks are set to music….with certain tunes sure to drive the audience wild….the Tennessee Volunteers fight song being one of them including fireworks in the teams colors. You never know who you will hear. The music has ranged from the music of Spielberg’s Jaws to Madonna. There is also a firework waterfall cascading off the bridge. The firework display starts at 9:30 in the evening.
