Masons in DC

Visiting Washington, DC almost invariably involves at least one tour of a famous site marking the founding of the political seat of the country. There are so many sites around the city, that it’s really rather difficult to avoid. Not that most people would even want to, because it’s a fascinating thing to look at a living history, understanding that it’s still unfolding with the voices of the people in time and space.

It is one of the big attractions of the city, of course. Tourists want to see the spaces, stay in the best hotels in Washington , and enjoy the way the present riffs on the ongoing themes of the past in new variations. Most people will, at some point during their touring, come across the threads that the Freemasons left here, or at least, what many believe are the threads.

The Masons leave an alternative history in their wake, as only secret societies can do. But perhaps what’s more interesting than whatever truth there might be to the history of the Masons in the country, are the multiple theories about their hidden influence on the world at large. Some of these seem worth mulling over, some are pretty remarkable for their fantastical and fanatical tendencies, and they all speak to some hidden truths about the citizenry. Usually these truths reveal more about the conspiracy theorists than the suspects of their inquiries, but that’s just more grist for a very funky mill.

One of the most interesting ideas is that the architect of the city, a certain Pierre Charles L’Enfant , was himself involved in the Craft, and designed it according to some very devious principles. It’s also more than likely that he himself was actually not a Mason at all, and the city’s design was as much determined by chance as it was be strategy.

Of course, this does actually sound like what the Masons would want us to believe…

Can be any worse than the nonsense that is Washington now. Ever since Obama took office there is a sub culture which wants to make paralyze washignton. Anything to bring the President downn does’nt really matter what is best for the people who elected them. That does’nt come into it.
