We, my family and I, decided to leave Soller, Mallorca and travel to our current destination of Formentera. We checked out of one of the Mallorca hotels which left us with nothing but memories of a fantastic vacation. Our Balearic travels began with two days in Soller. We rented a car and went to the cities of Deia and Valdemossa. We loved the small cobbled streets, the local stores, and all the blooming flower boxes hanging from all the windows of the homes were some of the best things to see on our day trip. We did get a scare though, when we traveled down a steep windy road about four meters wide to a secluded swimming area for a mid-day dip. A few days later we arrived in San Telmo where we spent a day snorkeling, tubing and roaming the small town.

A day after that, we arrived in Palma, Mallorca. We took a short walk to drop off some of our laundry and to visit the cities farmers market. We made our way around to the shopping district and visited stores, like El Corte de Ingles or tous. We finished our shopping excursion ans found ourselves in an alleyway like streets filled with boutique stores. On our way back, we found the Palma Cathedral. So, the next day we toured the Cathedral and found it to be stunning. The ticket to the cathedral included entrance to a museum of relics. From Palma we travelled to a busy resort beach called Cala Portals. There was in island we all could swim to, so all four of us swam to the island and walked up through most of it until we got too many splinters. Then we took a dingy to the raft of the beach. We all took dives and flips until we were done and tired.

A Maui vacation allows tourists not only a chance to enjoy its well known reputation for sapphire oceans and flowers that jewel its tropical landscape, but it also provides tourists with a chance to learn about some of the rich culture that make Hawaii such a top spot for tourism.

The namesake God of the island, Maui, was the runt of his family, but he had a sharp wit and a mischievous temperament.  However, his brothers were unimpressed, especially with his fishing skills.  Out of revenge for the hurt his brother caused him, Maui used his quick wit to fill his boat to the brim, stealing the fish through trickery from his brothers who looked on with wonder.  Until they discovered what he was up to.  Then they left him out home with their mother.  Unhappy with the arrangement, Maui felt great distress until his mother, a goddess that guarded the road to the Underworld, sent him out to find a magic hook from his father, a god who held up the heavens.

According to this myth from Hawaii, the hook was named a Manaiakalani and it was caught up in the heavens where his father lived.  If it caught hold of the land, it would bring the ancient seas together.  Maui got the hook, and then asked his brothers to go fishing with him again.  Instead, his brother laughed at him and tossed him to the land again.  But when they returned, they returned without any of the fish they had caught on their trip.  Maui cajoled them into allowing him to go back out to sea with him where the brothers only caught sharks.  Mad that the fish Maui had promised them still did not appear, they scorned him.

Using the hook and a powerful chant, he caught the Great Fish.  Ordering his brothers row as hard and as furiously as possible without looking back at the fish, Maui held the Great Fish for two days on the magical hook.  Yet curiosity got the better of one of his brothers and he looked back.  The line loosened from Maui as soon as the brother had looked back.  Soon enough the line broke and the magic plunged into the sea to be lost forever.  Maui was greatly upset because he was attempting to pull up a great land, but instead he only had the islands of Hawaii for his sweat and hard work.

If tourists want more than just the usual sun, sand, and beaches, Maui travel deals would give other opportunities to them to expand on their knowledge of the deep cultural roots that bind the Hawaii islands together.  Coming back with a better understanding of the myths and culture of Maui would provide tourists with an even longer lasting souvenir than any material goods bought in boutiques or shops.

When it comes to four-star hotels, Goa offers splendid accommodations that will rejuvenate and replenish guests from all walks of life.  There is sumptuous combination of innovation and tradition, featuring all the latest technologies to keep you connected to the world at large, and old-world values of hospitality and courtesy to keep you connected to a spirit of relaxation.   Goa is one of India’s most luxurious jewels, nestled on the west coast with coastlines and spectacular inland views, marking it as one of the region’s hotspots for biodiversity.  Our hotels, then, offer a splendid central point from which to base your stay in this enchanted place.  Our restaurants offer exquisite food served by world-class chefs trained in all the latest culinary techniques.

If urban adventure is on your agenda, there is a lot to see in the city.  One does not have to move very far before coming across the immense creativity that lies here.  Goa has given birth to some of the most interesting forms of music, both in antiquity and in modern times.  It is also the birthplace of one of India’s great political cartoonists, Mario Miranda.  In 2008, Goa saw the release of a major collection of his life’s work, another feather in a cap stock full of feathers.

Mario Miranda already in his 80s, is remarkable for his great reputation, international fame, and humble character.  His childhood in Goa was marked by a constant tendency to draw, and the story goes that his mother noticed his early talent beginning when he would draw on the walls of her house.  She bought him a notebook, and the rest, they say, is cartoon history.  He went to art school in Portugal, lived for a few years in England, and spent a good part of his life in Mumbai.  A trip to the United States in 1974 introduced him to Charles Schulz, the creator of Peanuts, and the two recognized a shared tendency to find the bright side of life through humor.  It certainly kept him working all these years, and his sense of humor has made him a household name all over the country.  He has returned to Goa, where he presently lives with his wife and family.

The soil here in Ibiza is really red, kind of like a Sedona red and like Sedona one can get away from the admittedly beautiful man made towns for the nature made serenity of piny hills and sheer rocky seascapes. It’s best that the Ibiza Town Hotel maintains this respect for the natural world and one can leave the exciting thumping of Ibiza’s legendary nightlife. Es Cavallet beach boasts clear water and pines and extensive dunes and sand. You can see the islands of Formentera off int eh distance beyond the white sand where parts of it are clothing optional. There are nice cafes on the beach. The beach attracts people from all over. In fact, the history of the island goes back thousands of years, and has hosted everyone from the Romans to the Visigoths. It’s a sure bet the Romans would enjoy the hedonism that is Ibiza today.

Part of that history is celebrated at the Medieval Fair as costumed performers in period garb entertain on the street, while crafts people provide their crafts. There was much dancing and great food, and entertaining performances for everyone. Some dressed as though they had leprosy and begged for handouts! This all seemed to emanate from the Castle of Dalt Vila, a Unesco World Heritage site For more music meet the hippies of Cala de Benirras where the people come to drum in a traditional manner. During the drumming, take in the cute stands featuring hand crafted objects, made by actual hippies! As the sun goes down great bonfires are lit and torches shine in the night. The sound reverberates in the small cove. This is one of many markets in Ibiza, not all of which you can meets hippies doing their thing, or having a chance at a conga lesson!

Lake Powell is located in a remote area of the south west United States on the Arizona – Utah border. The southern end of the lake is in Arizona but the vast majority of the lake is located in Utah. The lake is man made. It was made by the building of the Glen Canyon dam in the Colorado river in northern Arizona. The dam causing the river water to back up into the Glen Canyons and flooding them. It took many many years for the lake to completely fill up with water. The lake is composed of the main channel which is a mile or more wide. There are tons of side channels that come off the main channel with varying lengths. The side channels are navigable by boat as is the main channel. Just be aware of hidden rock because that can appear anywhere. Even in deep water you might encounter a submerged monolithic rock. Much of the lake is bordered by sheer rock cliffs. There is no shore line in these areas. The sandstone cliff tower above the lake some 60 to 100 feet and show black streaks that run down the cliff face where water runs off the tops of the rocks. Lake Powell has more shore line than the state of California. One of the main sites to see on Lake Powell is down an off shooting canyon named Forbidden Canyon. Down this canyon you will find Rainbow Rock bridge. This is the largest free Stanton sandstone arch in the world. A short hike up the canon from were you have to dock your boat and you are there. Rainbow Rock bridge is only access able by boat from Lake Powell or by foot for many many miles thought the Navajo reservation. Lake Powell can be a very relaxing vacation with so much to explore and noting to do but relax I enjoyed this as much as the Bali beach resort I visited last year!

The norm is go to school, get a degree, get a job, work, work, work, hopefully get a raises and possibly promotions, then retire. It is as if there are no other choices in this world but to work for someone else. Well there are other choices, I have chosen to do live otherwise. Being an entrepreneur is one option, if you have the drive and an idea and the courage you can leap out on your own. Take control of your income, your time and your life. Begin your own business and have the freedom of being your own boss. Of course being an entrepreneur requires a lot of work and focus. More hours are generally put in by an entrepreneur than an average office worker. However the work can be done where you choose and on the time table you select. Work all night and sleep all day. Double up on the work load one day and take the next day off. It can be tough keeping up the focus and motivating yourself but ultimate the reward is worth it. Entrepreneurship will build your confidence and belief you can accomplish what you set out to do what ever it is. Creating an opportunity to employ yourself is empowering and liberating. Controlling what work you have to do and when to do it makes for a happier and more productive person. Working from the road is another advantage of entrepreneurship especially if you have built a business that isn’t location specific. Something you can do form anywhere on your computer. I particularly like this aspect. Conducting business on the beach, answering emails from the lobby of a 5 star Mumbai hotels, returning calls while playing a round of golf. Working this way is freedom and liberty without the constraints of the 9 to 5 grind. It can be scary but I think it is worth the ultimate reward of answering to yourself and no one else. This is non-conformity at its best!

When planning a visit to Canberra, Australia, hotels are an essential consideration. In this, the largest inland city in Australia, accommodation choices are many, and discerning travelers will certainly want what we have to offer. Guests at our hotels will find themselves enjoying a refreshing stay with state of the art amenities. Fine dining, exercise facilities, and a well-informed staff are just the beginning. Hospitality and convenience are at a premium here, in order to insure that you enjoy your free time, rejuvenating your mind and body before venturing into the fascinating city. These are very distinctive hotels, with individual touches that will impress in their ambience and great attention to detail. Your vacation should be about you, and helping you unwind is our mission.

Canberra is unique in many ways, not the least of which is its status as a planned city. There is a fondness here for innovation, with a constant reinvention of culture and entertainment. One of the most exciting institutions, if it can be called that, is Canberra’s The Street Theatre. It opened its doors in 1994, and has quickly established itself as a premiere venue for the arts, featuring live performances of alternative theatre, music, and even comedy. One of the latest shows is a performance by Rod Quantock, who talks about the contemporary state of environmental emergency, an odd subject for an evening of comedy, but well worth the time.

The Street Theatre is not simply a venue for local and traveling acts to showcase for the Canberra audience, though it certainly is that. It considers itself an ideas house, a place where artists and intellectuals can enjoy and present new work that is challenging and innovative, raising the bar for performance in Australia and the world at large. One of their main focuses is on presenting trans-disciplinary work, emphasizing a multiplicity in vision and sensibility. New media works are also highly encouraged here, and audiences will find themselves treated to heady and provocative works of extremely intriguing entertainment.

To be sure, there is a boutique hotel in Singapore that’s just for you. Our hotels offer the best in comfort and style, and have that extraordinary unique touch that make boutique hotels what they are. One can reasonably expect that all the usual amenities in the world’s best hotels will be here, with room service, technological connectivity, and all the extra features like exercise facilities. But the most distinguishing features are individual to each hotel, and often to each room as well. With such extras as a swimming pool placed over a dining hall, so you can enjoy a room and watch guests swimming over your head, there is a spectacular experience to be had in each hotel. Your stay here will be high in hospitality and comfort in order to help you relax and rejuvenate, and to enjoy Singapore.

This island city-state is on the Malay peninsula, and was once a fishing village. Now an urban metropolis, with all manner of sights and attractions, it has a unique and fascinating history. There are plenty of activities here to keep the whole family interested and engaged, not the least of which is people watching. Lucky visitors here might catch a glimpse of the dazzling Zoe Tay. Considered by many to be Singapore’s first home-grown celebrity, Zoe Tay is one of the most recognized faces here, gracing the covers of all the glamour magazines. She has certainly come a long way from her humble origins, and is a true Singapore success story.

She was born on a pig farm, and spent her childhood living without a television, oddly enough. She began her career as a model, and her large brown eyes caught the attention of the world, and has never let it go! Zoe Tay avoided acting at first, enjoying her successful modeling career and considering a career as a production assistant. However, her first win on Star Search helped her to change her mind, and her role on Crime and Passion really sealed the deal for her. Having an obvious talent for it, and certainly a heavy dose of enthusiasm, she went on to become what she is today: a real superstar. She has a long and impressive list of television credits, and has even made some excursions into film. Her role in the television drama Pretty Faces is her favorite, and was an enormous success all over Singapore. Today, although she now is the mother of two children, she does not seem to show any signs of slowing down, much to the appreciation of her fans all over Singapore.

The Palace Theatre of Newcastle, England was a unique building. The stage was incredibly large, almost forty feet in depth. The auditorium contained three different seating levels with the capacity to seat more than two thousand audience members at one time. Back in the theaters heyday, many stayed in the Newcastle luxury hotels in order to attend the shows and visit the city. On the first level the seating was right next to the stage, making it possible for audience members to actually reach out and shake hands with the actors. The theater had started to become run down in by the mid 1950’s. Many theaters throughout the country had already begun to shut down, however the Palace had a loyal following.

The audience were made up of mostly those from the working class, which was strong enough to provide the touring shows with a stipend of the earnings from the box office on any given night’s performance. However, the audiences could be rough, and often times noise from those causing a ruckus in the parking lot could be heard inside the theater. One of the aldermen of Newcastle was the director of the company, a private local business that owned the Palace at the time.

Stan Pell managed the stage and had himself at one time been well known for his performances with a comedy troupe during the 1920’s through the 1930’s. But by the second half of the twentieth centuries, the taste of audiences was changing. Television was becoming more popular which served to affect the businesses of the live theater companies throughout the world. Many of the historical buildings are Grade listed heritage sites, however this system of preserving historical building was not in place at that time, so the building was condemned and eventually torn down. However, many of those people still living in Newcastle today, remember the shows and the good times that decades of productions provided to the people of the town of Newcastle, England.

When one is searching for a Singapore restaurant, what ever food one is wishing for will be found. The diversity of the cultures that have moved to the country over the years as served to create not only a variety of art, music, theater and dance, but of the world of food as well. Each of the cultures have brought with them the foods and the recipes of their homelands, and through time these dishes have evolved into food that is unique to Singapore, the Singapore French food, the Singapore Vietnamese food, etc. The list goes on and on.

Throughout the history of this island, many have traveled from other countries to find work in Singapore, and to find a better way of life. As different cultures have settled in the country, they have adapted and evolved their traditions and how those relate to the environment and their surroundings, and to the produce and differences in the local ingredients.

Many different ethnic groups have provided the variety of cuisine which ranges from Italian to Indian, from Chinese to Thai. Three examples of dishes that are truly Singapore, are curried fish heads, the famous chili crab, and a salad of raw fish called yu sheng. This variety is similar to that found in the streets of New York City, USA, and is the tell tale sign of a culture that is truly metropolitan and international. Throughout the city of Singapore, there are some hubs, or epi-centers to be found, again similar to the Chinatown and Little Italy neighborhoods of Manhattan.

If one has a taste for Thai food, the Golden Mile Center is the place to go. Or if one should desire some schwarma or falafel, Arab Street offers up the best of the cuisine from the Mid-East. There are locations to find the more expensive and gourmet restaurants such as the Quays or the Colonial District, as well as the famous hawker stands that are located throughout the city and in the suburbs. These stands offer up hearty meals, for a good price. Anywhere one may wander, the good food is always easy to find in Singapore.

Goa the smallest of all the Indian states in size and is the forth smallest state in terms of population. Goa is situated on the Arabian Sea which is to its west. The state of Maharashtra is to the north and Karnataka borders Goa to the east and south. Panaji is the states capital and headquarters of the North Goa District. Panaji means the land that never floods. This is a charming little city on the banks of the Mandovi river. The red roofed houses built in the Latin style are also interspersed with modern housing. The avenues are lines with gardens, statues, Gulmohar, Acassia and other trees. The church on the main square is baroque and the influence of Portuguese explorers in the region. The city is on the left bank of the Mandovi river uder the terraced hillsides that have been farmed for centuries. The Goa spa resorts offer a relaxing respite to the weary traveler. The Manrovi River is 77 kilometers long originates from some thirty springs at Bhimgad on the Western Ghats. The river passes through the Dudhsagar Falls and the Varapoha Falls as it makes its way to the Aribian sea. The river enters Goa from the north via Sattari Taluka. The Mandovi flows through Cumbarjua, Divadi and Chodne before pouring into the Aribian sea. The Cumbarjuem Canal links the two rivers together and makes the river accesable to ships carring iron ore the primary mineral of the region. Three large freshwater isles, Divar, Chorao and Vashee are present in the Mandovi near the town of Old Goa. The island of Chorao is hoem to the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. This sanctuary is named after the renowned ornithologist Salim Ali. A regular ferry transports residents of the area between islands and the main land.

Rugy England refers both to a market town in the West Midlands as well as the larger Borough region surrounding the area. The town itself is located on the River Avon and has a population of around 62,000 people. One of its largest claims to fame is being acknowledged as being the birthplace of the sport called rugby football. However, there are many similar sports that serve as predecessors and one dates back to the Ancient Greeks, whose version of the game was known as episkuros. Guests staying in a luxury Rugby hotel are most definitely there for more than the chance to play the game or think that the resort itself will serve to host one.

The game now known as rugby was established in 1823 by William Ebb Ellis. He invented the game at Rugby School, which is located near the center of the town. The school itself is one of the most prestigious public schools in England, as well as being one of its oldest. While Ellis is given the credit for creating the game, the actual story of its invention has been designated as fitting into the category of lore and legend. There is no absolute authority on its actual creation, the standard belief is that it occurred during a standard association football game when Ellis picked up the ball. It’s a simple anecdote, and is similar to the apple falling on Newton’s head leading to his discovery of gravity. Ellis, however, is memorialized by the William Ebb Ellis Cup, which is awarded to the winning team of the Rugby Union World Cup.

The Rugby Union World Cup is the highest international union rugby competition. The next Rugby World Cup will take place in 2011 and New Zealand will be the hosting country. After that England will host the event in 2115 followed by its taking place in Japan in 1919. The obvious scheduling structure for the event is that it occurs every four years in a previously determined country. It is also considered an honor to host the event.

My class took our first trip to the Westonbirt Arboretum and we had a wonderful time. I really enjoyed learning all about all the variety of animals living at the Arboretum and learning how they prepare for England’s winters. While we were all eating lunch, we got to observe the birds closely. I was so thrilled, as were my other classmates, to see a woodpecker and a jay bird. That was my first time ever seeing those birds. I live in the city, in the Bristol Hotel were my parents work. So, I don’t get much of an opportunity to see any wildlife really, so this trip to the Arboretum was a real special treat for me.

After we took a long walk around the Arboretum, we got to sit down in a big room and make bookmarks using all the many colorful leaves we collected on our walk. Then we got to play on the playground they had in the woodlands. It had just rained while we were making the leaf bookmarks, so the playground was muddy, we had so much fun slashing through all the mud puddles. Our teachers who were there to make sure we behaved and didn’t get lost during our outing, were very upset with us to say the least. But, it was so fun for some of us who never experienced the real outdoors.

Fortunately, we were all escorted into the laundry area of the Arboretum. This was strictly for the staff, but our teachers begged that those of us who got all muddy be able to wash our clothes before we head back to our school. The Arboretum was very understanding. The girls and the boys were separated in different rooms where we could take of our clothes to be washed and dried. The room we were in was were they kept birds with broken wings. Today they had three birds recovering, one was a blue heron. It was so big and beautiful with a white cast on its right wing. I asked what happened to it and the staff member attending to it said it was injured by a hunter by accident. The hunter brought the wounded bird here to the Arboretum. The other two birds were Love birds who injured each other in a fight. Not too Loving I thought.

When we all put on our dry clean clothes and headed back to our school bus, I thought it would be nice to come here all the time. I would very much like to be able to help wounded birds. I told my teacher this and she smiled really big and told me she might be able to arrange for me to come here once a week and volunteer. I was so happy!
