The economy has seen better days and so has your resume. It can be tough to get back into the market, but your employment options can be even more limiting if you are not willing to relocate.
A good idea is to see where your type of job has the most opportunity, and this opportunity may not lie in your backyard. Take a look at jobs all over the US map and even include the World map.
If you are in a situation where relocating is possible it is a viable option when job hunting. If you do not limit your options to one regional area you will be able to apply for more jobs than the average person looking in your town.
The other good thing about applying all over the USA map is that you will get yourself exposed to a lot of different kinds of people. So even if you don’t get a job from your foray into relocation, you will still be able to sharpen your people and interview skills.
Also consider looking for contract positions in other areas. This would require you to move and live there for a short time, but it would not be permanent, consider it a mini-vacation away from your current life. Checking out the economic map of California or Florida map if you want to work in some warm weather is never a bad idea. That way you could try some new hobbies while you adjust, and you might even end up loving it.
Looking for a new job is rough, no matter where you live, especially in this current economic climate. All that matters is that you keep your options open and your chin up, you never know, you may end up with not just a new job, but a whole new life!
