One of the Balearic Islands, Ibiza stands as a popular tourist destination with a rich cultural history. While Ibiza restaurants cater to the worldly tastes of modern travelers, there is nothing to compare to eating local specialities while visiting a foreign locale.
As an island, the cuisine of Ibiza features incredible seafood. Take advantage of the fresh lobster, swordfish, prawns and crab as well as whatever the catch of the day might be. Parrillada de pescado is a mixed grill of different fishes while zarzuela is a popular fish stew. More adventurous diners will want to try fried octopus or la borrida de rajada (a dish featuring fish stomachs).
Another speciality of Ibiza is sausage such as sobrasada, which is made from ground pork, salt, paprika and other spices, and butifarrón. Other dishes include arros de matances (a rice dish with wild mushrooms and meat) and sofrit pagès (potatoes, meat, and vegetables). Diners can also sample empanades, cocas (similar to pizza topped with peppers), and fish soups.
For dessert, there is a range of sweet pastries, such as Ibizan magdalenes, bunyols (fritters flavored with aniseed), rubiols, and ensaimades. Other options include flaó, which is a cheesecake that is flavored with Ibizan mountian herbs and greixonera which is a local pudding.
