Singapore is unique in South East Asia in that it is a society based on efficiency and order.  This is in contrast to neighboring countries which are more rough and ready and where the crime rate is higher.  The result of this is that many travelers to South East Asia use Singapore as their base as they travel around the continent.

Travelers are attracted by the clean public spaces and orderly transportation – with roads that are well maintained, buildings that are modern, hospitals that are rated and other modern comforts usually associated with the west.  On the other side of the coin – people refer to Singapore as being sterile or lacking in color.  This is simply not true!

There are many colorful attractions for visitors.  This includes fine dining, adventurous shopping and the best Singapore hotels.  What really makes the country ideal for visitors in my opinion is the locals.  Having a local outlook on the country really adds to the experience for the visitor.  You may be staying in a five star hotel in Singapore – but visiting locals in their own homes really helps you to understand the country.  This in my opinion is what makes a vacation successful.
